Though weird this is the question flashed in my mind lately today because yesterday night a single mosquito ruined whole night of sleep unfortunately mosquito repellent was out of liquid... When humans are endangering many of the species on planet earth, why not mosquitoes? what would be the world without mosquitoes? would eradicating them causes bad consequences? is there really any benefits for ecosystem from this 5th largest species on the planet? these are all 
the thoughts that revolved in my mind.
Though at the beginning i thought its just another parasite with no real benefit to the eco system then i came to know nothing created by nature is usless each has its own purpose, did you know mosquitoes have been on earth for more than 100 million years there are 3500+ species of mosquitoes in which only few hundreds bit humans, Mosquitoes co-exisited with many species such as dinosaur to humans and scientists are trying to extract usable Disnosaur DNA from fossilized Mosquitoes preserved in amber.
Did you know Mosquitoes are attracted towards humans because of body heat, uric acid and cholesterol levels the process is called chemo taxis or chemical attracting thats why most mosquitoes repellers are designed to mask human scent.
So what are the benefits of Mosquitoes? Did you know mosquitoes play a important role in maintaining a balance in eco system:
1. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnat water As larvae most of the time these are food source for baby trouts, frogs,bats and other few species as they make up substantial biomass in acquatic eco system and its food chain.
2. It is said that Mosquitoes pollinates thousands of plants species such as Cattleya orchids, Epophytes etc though most of the mosquitoes species depends on nectar only few depends on blood of humans or other life forms.
3. It controls human population by spreading the disease thus balancing in nature it is said that 3 Largest deaths in the world are caused by disease spread through mosquitoes it is said that over 70million die every year due to mosquitoes spread disease.
4. They also fund repellant industry thus decent amount of jobs all around the world
So bottom line mosquitoes are important for eco-system, and if you come across any more benefits do share with us.
