mobile phone insurance is it worth it? atleast in india ?

common people always think before buying an expensive cell phone because of few reasons such as theft, loosing it or accidentally getting it damaged by water log due to rain etc, now latest trends in mobile industry is many insurance companies both govt and private are giving insurance for almost all the handsets from cheapest nokia 1100 to expensive iPhone it is said that few thousand handsets are stolen or get lost every minute around the world and now a days people are in trend of insuring their mobile phones, so is it really worth of insuring the mobile phones paying few hundred rupees or more?

Mobile insurance cover saves us against several aspects such as theft, riots, strike, fire etc but many don't know claiming mobile insurance is not as easy as it says! because there are loads of blockers which minimizes the chances of getting back the insured amount, and whats funny is there are more exclusions than inclusions.

Its easy to get the insurance cover if somebody snatch/steal mobile forcefully from your hand than consider if you loose it in the park while you are eating ice-cream in the park and left it unattended because the policy clearly states that there is not cover for the "Unattended cases"

below is a insurance policy claim information of Oriental insurance company

recently one of my colleague lost his cell phone in a city bus, he produced each and every document specified in the claim form from FIR, Original bill, SIM Deactivation to explanation letter etc but still his claim was rejected for silly reason that his SIM card was in his brothers name, my SIM is attached to my fathers SIM in a BSNL postpaid jodi scheme do i get insurance if my phone is lost? Insurance company only should answer.I bet 40% of mobile users in india will not be having numbers registered in their names and why the heck these insurance companies need SIM card to be registered in the policy holder name? are they giving insurance even to the SIM also?

And when i googled the net i came to know that there were tons of people who was rejected insurance for silly reasons, i think these insurance companies are more willing to reject than helping the people who have genuinely lost their mobile.

Recently i bough my LGP500 droid phone with insurance and now i think i should have done some R&D before opting for insurance and loosing few extra bucks what ever it is if any of you guys reading this post had successfully claimed the insurance amount do penn down your experience here.

Bottom line its waste to take a mobile insurance unless and until your mobile is too costly
