I bet at least once in a life time you would have argued with auto driver about the meter tampered and high auto fare, it is said that around 60% of the auto meters in the city are tampered to jump auto-fare by 20-30rs for every 100rs.
recently i took a auto from majestic railway station (Bangalore) to my house as it was late night 10.30 when i called the auto he said it will be one and half times the metered fare, since it is common rate between 10 pm and 5 am i agreed but when i reached my home i was astonished to see the meter showed 70rs and since it was one and half he demanded 105rs WTF? i came from majestic to my place few times recently and most of the time the charge was between 45-50rs and then i realized i was the victim of tampered meter though i argued with him, later gave the money and told him to f**k oFF.
guys most of the times these kind of corrupt auto drivers will be swarming near railway and bus stations if your are new to bangalore or rarely travel in autos like me you will be royally screwed below are few tips how not fall prey for these drivers.
1. First of all never ever take auto rickshaws that has mechanical meter since these meters do not have options to show kilometers travelled always try to take autos with digital meter.
2. Never get into autos who explicitly call you, remember face is index of mind.
3. Take prepaid Autos facility available 24hrs you have to pay Rs 1 at the terminal this goes to auto drivers welfare fund then you are given a slip which contain date, time, vehicle number and how much you have to pay to the destination well in advance, if there is any grievance you can call 24 hours railway police control room.
4. If you have a GPS enabled mobile phone make sure to mark the distance, because GPS Devices will accurately shows the distance traveled
Whatever it is always try to take public transport such as public buses instead of autos if possible, and if your are confident and strongly believe auto you have taken has tampered metered or misbehaving or charging more than the metered fare just note down the rickshaw registration number and drivers badge number found behind the seat and complaint by dialing 080 - 25588444/555 or 080 - 22943030/3131, or email it to addlcptrafficbcp@gmail.com else visit www.bangaloretrafficpolice.gov.in for additional information in their website.
