access internet on Android via PC or laptop

is it possible to use, share or access internet from desktop computer to android mobiles device via usb? this is the common question many ask who has been using windows mobile and shifted to Android mobile phones, because Windows mobile allows to surf web on cell phone seamlessly using the internet connection via active sync from your desktop or laptop.

Since i have a Broadband connection in home i don't want again to spend money on mobile data plan as i use net on mobile only to sync my contacts, calendar, though there are some third party applications which allows to access internet on laptop via android phone i was not able to find any application or option in Android platform which would do other way round after searching for a long while i came to conclusion there is not way to access internet from Android phone Via your laptop or PC just like windows mobile using active sync.

But the only hack as of now is to spend another 25 to 30$ buy a wifi router and connect it to your normal broadband connection in home and use it via wifi, if i am missing out something or there is already way to access internet on android phones via PC or laptop please enlighten me.

I had the same question, so I thank you for saving me the time I'd otherwise have spent rummaging around for an answer.
