Can we repair quartz wall clock movement ?

Clocks are always known for its sentimental value whether it is a wristwatch, wall clock, mechanical or quartz, recently our wall clock stopped working after 24 years! yes you heard it right it worked of 24 years straight and was our on stop go for knowing time most of the time. now the watch stopped working one question baffled me can we repair it? though its always a better idea to toss a old wall clock and buying new one in terms of cost and repair factor because new wall clock cost nearly same than repairing old ones... i think because of the sentimental value of these watches something made to get it repaired again...

So here are the several factors you need to know before getting your old clock repaired

1. Quartz Movement are cheap and highly reliable that is they won't get repaired even in long run, so check whether the minute hand is coming in contact with glass and get stucked

2. Try to rotate the hands using the time wheel behind the movement so that if it is stuck or jammed it can get freed up.

3. Check the battery and replace it with new if still it does not work check whether the battery terminals are corroded if so clean the corrosion and make battery contacts clear.

4. If nothing else works then the quartz movement is not working and thus need repair, most of the time the clock mechanic insist on changing it to new movement as it is cheaper than to repair.

5. If your are changing the quartz movement of your clock make sure you are replacing with the branded one so that it gives you more reliable service and accurate time keeping.

6. Your existing wall clock hands (Minute, hour, seconds sticks) may not always match with new mechanism, so try to match the new hands with your wall clock, using too much designer, plain or inappropriate combination may ruin the purpose of restoring your wall clock itself this is one of the important factor to remember.

recently my old wall clock hands did not matched the new mechanism and the clock guy used his own combination without my consent though the new hands are totally different from old hands, hour and minute somehow matched the clock but seconds hands was black in color which blended with the background color and we cannot see the seconds hand from the distance.

so guys these are some of the tips to take care if you are getting your old wall clock repaired if you know or like to add few extra tips you are welcome.
