I always wanted my car dashboard to be equipped with a system that offers entertainment, navigation system, telephony, internet surfing, on-board cruise control and security system etc in one word a complete intelligent tightly integrated console...
As time passes most of the gadgets that we use are undergoing major revolutionary changes from TV, audio system, to handheld mobile phones, all are catching par with time and technology and
are so smart now that we never even imagined that it would be in last few years... Even the mechanical, Cosmetic and electrical's systems of today's car has undergone a major changes in last few decades, the only thing that has undergone a very few modification and remained more or less same is our car dashboards, though i am not talking about the dashboard of Luxury segments car which is a bit advanced and satisfies most of my needs, i am talking about category of cars that we normal common people use that is Mid segment.
I am a mobile phone application developer by profession the day i started working on google android more than a year back i came to know the power of its flexibility, scalability and due to its open source nature its now even more powerful, i always thought when the android can be used on netbooks, tablets and other stuff why no one is caring to adopt it to car dashboards ? with powerful google maps gps and other features its like "made for dashboard" kinda product...
since google android is free i bet integrating and tweaking it a little bit for automobile sector wont cost that much a single android console can serve everything that a car dashboard needs from entertainment audio and video playback, GPS Navigation, Controlling the car basic things like opening bonnet, opening windows etc etc( there are already some android based applications for cars see video) and all with just a touch of screen.
Though the video shows Cloud GPS navigation demo for the car from smartphone its not the actual integration.
Recently i heard that google has teamed up with Intel and other companies such as wind river to bring a powerful android based platform to the cars and it is already half way through and may be available shortly, though prior to android i always thought windows CE compact framework was a possible option to make car dashoboard intelligent now with google android there is no other thing in mind what ever it is! its a good move from google for planning to take android to mobile industry and by bringing such a good platform to the people,
will smart car dashboard changes the way we commute in fact help us navigate, warn us for traffic a head, playing music, videos, allowing us to browse, make calls, socialize, check email etc etc possibilities are unlimited but today my car is satisfying me only with two things entertainment(audio only) and with bluetooth based telephony and trival controls isn't that dumb ?

Yup.. i too thought many times same way google android should be bought to the car's
