Solar eclipse and shadows of leaves

this eclipse was awesome experience with shadow of leaf on ground and all the birds chripping and flying back to nest thinking it was already evening and all the people standing by the street watching the eclipse through goggles, old floppies, cds, colored covers and glasses and one person was so generous enough to lend the goggles to every one in the street to watch the eclipse thanks to the guy i was able to watch the eclipse with the help of his goggles.

one thing made me astonishing when i looked at the ground the near by tree shadow i could see every leaf had a picture of eclipse in it man i could not believe as the eclipse progressed i could see the progress of eclipse in the leafs and i could see almost all the kind of trees and leafs in the street exhibited the same behavior, even the shadow of our hand during eclipse had the pattern in it see the below pic taken from n73 camera...

back in the office there was the small debate within the colleagues some was very scientific in thinking and left for lunch and some were pretty much orthodox and choose to stay and have food after the bath though i am not orthodox i choose the latter, so next time during annular solar eclipse don't forget to watch out for shadows it will be a amazing experince

HI We also observed the same but was wondering what could be the reason. Waiting for scientific explanation to understand such an exotic phenomenon

The reason is...

This is because the spaces between the leaves behave like multiple pin hole camera that reflects the light source!
