How to recover DVD, CD unreadable damaged data ?

is your favorite home video, pictures, documents is corrupted and wanted to rescue it or any of your cd or dvd is heavily scratched making it unreadable? recently i tried to open my engineering project cd but i was horrified to find that it was damaged and my DVD drive was not detecting it after a couple of tries in vain i searched on the net to on how to recover data from my failed cd and finally i was able to recover almost 99% of data back here it goes on how i did.

ISO Buster:
this is the awesome tool which helped me in retrieving my old engineering project and re-back it up again though its a shareware that is free to try for a certain period of time and have to pay it after the trial expires if you like it.

ISO Buster will read from the disc and skip all the affected sectors thus retrieving the date which is recoverable it also shows you tracks and sessions on the media as the combined file system and this software truly does what it says..

Copy Cat
:
unlike iso buster copy cat is a freeware that is the software is free of charge copy cat also works similar to ISO buster by skipping all the damaged sectores and recover data as much as possible it can even read the data from the damaged hard drive which are not readable under windows

Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier
:
Another software tool that helps in recovering data from physically damaged discs it has options like pause, save and resume session so that you can continue to recover the data until next time when you are free if the recovery process is taking too much time this is an added advantage of this free tool

unconventional methods:
it is said that we can repair the scratches to make the disc playable using toothpaste, polish or even banana and procedures to all these things are almost same:

1. First of all clean the surface of disc with detergent or alcohol so that finger prints or grease spots are gone.

2. Apply toothpaste or polish or banana skin on scratched surface slowly rotating in clock and anticlock direction without scrubbing too hard and wipe away remaining with dry and clean cotton cloth.

3. And try to play the disc in dvd player or computer 60% chances are its gonna work once i recovered a game cd just by washing it with clean water.

if you know any other tips, suggestions or free software tools or any thing that might be useful to other readers are always welcome.
