Today i was a one day mechanic my profession changed from software engineer to car mechanic for the day ;) from past one week our driver was complaining about the jerks during gear transmission reason was clutch plate was worn out.
we though of leaving it to near by service center out of blue our driver who is ex-mechanic with 30 years experience said "if you can lend a hand we both can fix the car" without any second thought i said "yeah ok we will do that!!! " he bought all the required tools.
Oh!!! Man i never thought it was so back breaking we jacked up the car removed the balance rods and almost loosened the whole engine and removed 50% of engine(gear assembly) outside the engine compartment and disintegrated and listed all the worn out parts
we went to the Essar motors(Only Authorized Genuine Maruti spare Distributor for Bangalore south) near Lalbagh urvashi theater bought the clutch and flywheel assembly, release bearing and few other small parts started the work at 11:00 am.
Luckily today it was a bit cloudy and we did not feel much of sun's heat first we loosened the bolts and jolted the old flywheel out it was a bit easy but tightening the new flywheel bolts back was a bit tricky because holding the flywheel not to rotate while tightening was a hard task.
Once flywheel was replaced it was time to refurbish the gear assembly our driver cleaned the gearbox with thinner it was looking as if it was a new gearbox we removed the old release bearing replaced with new one.
now final task was to assemble the clutch assembly with flywheel we were puzzled because it requires a centering rod which we were not having our driver bought a old wood piece chopped it nicely and used it as the centering rod finally clutch assembly was fixed and we removed the wood.
Now real work needs to be done refitting the half engine(gear assembly) back believe me removing was easy task but fixing it back was hell lot of a hard work and i sweated so much my shirt was almost wet and it was almost evening 6.30PM before the last bolt was tightened finally we fixed the car professionally ;) though it was a hardwork i enjoyed it with each bolt tightened this was my week end saga what was yours?

in india most of the repairs can be done in 10's of dollars ;)
