recently my office system was upgraded with new LCD monitor(DELL S1709W) dumping old CRT, but the resolution in my new LCD monitor did not look quite right the fonts looked bit big and blurry and i could easily feel the strain on my eyes.
though setting resolution right is very easy most of the people who have LCD monitors set it incorrectly below are easy steps to find and fix resolution right:
1. First of all identifying whether your lcd monitor screen resolution is correct or not it is very easy just open any editor say MSWORD or NOTEPAD and set the font size to standard say 10point now if the fonts viewed closely appears blurr then your system resolution is wrong.
2. Now your screen resolution is incorrect find out your monitor resolution spec for example 1280 x 800 , 1440 x 900, 1600 x 1080 etc you can find this information in behind your LCD monitor, vendor website or you can use a tool called SIW(System information tool) as shown in below PIC to find out exact size.

3. Once you have identified correct resolution of your monitor right click on your desktop click on properties and changed the resolution by sliding the slide bar until it matches your resolution see below PIC or you can click on your graphics driver(mine is intel extreme graphics) as show in below pic and select appropriate resolution.
changing the resolution using your system properties
changing the resolution using your graphics driver from system tray
though most of the time its easy to set monitors to set to the correct resolution some times monitors behave weirdly even at right resolution at this time it is better to press Auto Adjust button of your monitor almost all the monitors contains this button.
