I have a habit of copying DVD to hard disk before watching because i dont want my DVD writer to continuously run for an 100mins until the movie is watched and recently one of the DVD i bought played on my friend DVD player but not on my system then i came to know that the dvd 
is copy-protected.
There are number of free dvd rippers available out there which not only decrypt copy right protected movies and also Macrovision, Content Scrambling System (CSS), region codes and user operation prohibition and allows you to burn straight to the disk or store the movies in your hard drive
