How to rip and decrypt dvd's that are copy protected on vista, mac and linux ?

I have a habit of copying DVD to hard disk before watching because i dont want my DVD writer to continuously run for an 100mins until the movie is watched and recently one of the DVD i bought played on my friend DVD player but not on my system then i came to know that the dvd is copy-protected.

There are number of free dvd rippers available out there which not only decrypt copy right protected movies and also Macrovision, Content Scrambling System (CSS), region codes and user operation prohibition and allows you to burn straight to the disk or store the movies in your hard drive

below are some of the ways to rip encrypted dvd's on windows, mac and linux systems though there are many such tools these are the best as of my knowledge:

Dvd decrypters for window systems according to relevance:

1. DVDDecrypter

DVD Decrypter is a free ware this tool is very useful if you want to copy dvd date to your PC and to rip copy protected movies and want to rip and convert region specific dvd to all region dvd(css).

2. DVDShrink

DVD Shrink is a useful program to back up DVD discs this is free ware this tool can also be used in conjunction with a DVD burning software such as Nero to make copies of the DVD video disc.

3. ANY DVD

Any Dvd is similar to dvd decrypter but with extended features and can decrypt DVDs on-the-fly and also helps in removal of copy prevention but unlike dvd decrypter this is a shareware that is free to try for several days and need to buy licence after trial period,

DVD Decrypters for Mac

1. Mac the Ripper
Mac the ripper is one of the longest surviving and widely ripper in the mac world and is said to be one of the best it is said to rip almost all the type of encryption except few complicated protection scheme such as "dark knight"

2. Fairmount

Fairmount is said to do the job except to be a bit slow compared to other rippers it uses vlc to decrypt so vlc needs to be installed and it is said to remove the copy protection and give the clean image of the dvd and also movies can be copied to the hard drive

3. RipIt

RipIt is a commerical tool that is free to try unlike mactheripper, fairmount and other mac rippers RipIt is easy to use with its simplest user interface another advantage of RipIt is that its ablility to rip many newer DVDs that include enhanced copy-protection technology.

DVD Decrypter for Linux

1. K9Copy
k9copy is one of the most widely used tool to backup a dvd and to circumvent CSS copy protection, K9Copy also includes basic DVD authoring capabilities and The interface allows a user to explicitly retain or discard any content from the original disc such as video titles, audio tracks, subtitles and the DVD menu

though above are some of the tools to decrypt and backup dvd do let us know if you know or using any other tool that is easy to use and pretty much serves the purpose.
