The search file option in windows get populated with the search key words overtime and next time it automatically shows the related search keywords for some reason if you want to clear the search history there is no direct way of clearing it instead a small registry hack can be used to clear all the previously searched keywords follow the simple steps below
-->click start-->run-->type "REGEDIT" without colons
-->Traverse to the below key path for windows xp users
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Search Assistant \ ACMru \ 5603
--> for windows classic search traverse to below path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Explorer Bars \ {C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1} \ FilesNamedMRU
Now you can see the search strings in right pane just select all the entries you want to delete and hit "Delete" and between editing registry improperly might causes serious damage to your system so be careful
